Artist Statement
My practice is focused on the figure and its relationship to a variety of imaginary landscapes. I consciously employ expansive motion of endless variations that vibrant color and paint have the potential to create. This is an exciting objective that I hope to convey in my work. Some of the figures I use are derived from Sahel (sub- Saharan Africa) figures: praying and reaching for water. Other figures I have invented and enjoy excavating their forms. I am fascinated by inherent contradictions of human nature and experimenting with the dynamic interplay of figures in the social and physical world.
